McLaren will make just 500 examples of the 675LT Spider globally.
McLaren, the British marque that is no stranger to superlatives, is at it again.
The racing company with a supercar habit announced Wednesday it will build a limited-production run of 675LT Spiders, the fastest open-top model McLaren has ever built.
The 675LT Spider is based on the 675LT coupe, itself a lighter, faster version of the 650S. Like its fixed-roof brethren, the 675LT Spider uses a 3.8-liter, twin-turbocharged V-8 that generates a devilish 666 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.
A 0-62 mph run takes just 2.9 seconds and the top speed is 203 mph.
The 675LT Spider also utilizes the same weight-saving approach as the coupe. This means extensive use of carbon fiber throughout the car helps drop the dry weight to 2,800 pounds. That’s 220 pounds lighter than the 650S Spider, or about the same as an average Hyundai Elantra.
The three-piece folding hardtop retracts at speeds up to 19 mph.
McLaren will make just 500 examples of the 675LT Spider globally, and they’ll each start at $373,600. Deliveries begin next summer.
