MUNICH -- Volkswagen has recruited Apple executive Johann Jungwirth, who was linked to the tech company's electric car project, to head a newly established digital strategy unit.
Earlier this year reports said Apple had hired Jungwirth for a project code-named Titan to develop an Apple-branded electric vehicle. Before joining Apple, Jungwirth, 42, was head of Mercedes-Benz's Silicon Valley r&d unit.
"With the new function and the appointment of Jungwirth, Volkswagen is strongly reinforcing its position in digitalization, which is a very important future field for the automotive industry," VW said statement on Tuesday.
