Volkswagen revealed several updates for the 2016 Passat, including a new hood, front fenders, grille, and front and rear bumpers. The only sheet metal parts unchanged from the 2015 model are the door panels, roof and body side stamping, VW says.
The new Passat will arrive in U.S. showrooms in late November or early December.
VW design chief Klaus Bischoff said in a statement that the changes reflect a "progressive design strategy" to give the car a "dynamic presence and more sophisticated look" than its predecessor, which has been criticized for its bland styling.
A sporty R-Line trim version will be available for the first time in the U.S. The R-Line will have distinctive rocker panels, a sportier front bumper, a more aerodynamic rear underbody and 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels with low-profile tires.
