Estimated North American car and truck production in August rose 1.9 percent from a year earlier to 1,539,640 units. That marked the highest output for an August since 2005 and the 49th straight month that the production total has topped 1 million. North American vehicle output has surpassed 1.5 million in five of the past six months.
Car production fell 7.0 percent in the U.S. and 0.9 percent in Mexico but edged up 1.3 percent in Canada. North American car output slid 4.3 percent.
Truck output rose 5.8 percent in the U.S. and jumped 20 percent in Mexico but slipped 3.1 percent in Canada. North American truck production climbed 6.4 percent.
Vehicle output increased 1.0 percent in the U.S. and 7.8 percent in Mexico but fell 1.4 percent in Canada.
