FRANKFURT -- BMW Group CEO Harald Krueger collapsed on stage at the Frankfurt auto show today.
Krueger, 49, fell to the floor as he was commenting on BMW's latest models during a news conference. Two men escorted him off stage. Kruger was able to walk.
A witness at the front of the event told Automotive News Europe that Krueger “looked dizzy, grabbed his head and fell back on the floor.”
Krueger is being treated by a doctor after the "moment of dizziness," BMW spokesman Maximilian Schoeberl said later in a statement, adding that the CEO's condition is stable and he is recovering well.
A BMW spokesman later said Krueger returned to Munich and would not participate further in the Frankfurt auto show. The CEO cancelled his interview and appointments for the remainder of the show.
Krueger hadn't been feeling well just before the press conference, Schoeberl said, adding that the CEO has been traveling a lot lately.
Krueger was making his first appearance at the biennial trade event as BMW's chief. He took over as BMW CEO in May from Norbert Reithofer.
