With U.S. auto sales booming, the ultraluxury brands are stepping up development of new products.
At the top of the list for each is a crossover or SUV -- unthinkable several years ago but now a must. Aston Martin, Bentley, Lamborghini and Rolls-Royce will debut crossovers or SUVs expected to cost about $200,000 or more. They will compete with the upper-end Range Rover as well as a Mercedes-Maybach said to be in development.
Add Tesla to the crossover-adopters list. It is introducing the Model X crossover this fall. And the smaller, more affordable Model 3, due in late 2017, eventually will spawn a crossover platform mate.
