Nissan will introduce a crossover concept -- named Gripz -- at the Frankfurt auto show that reports say will preview a new direction for the automaker's Z sports car subbrand.
Other reports speculate the concept previews the next-generation Juke.
Nissan has given no concrete information about the car other than to confirm it will be a crossover and to release teaser images. In a short statement on Sept. 8, it said the brand had “created a new way to feel driving excitement.”
On Friday, Sept. 11, in a new statement, Nissan said the Gripz concept was inspired by "legendary 240Z desert racers as well as the sleek two-wheel world" of road cycling.
"The design explores a new sporty direction for a crossover concept and was conceived to create an innovative new driving sensation," Nissan said.
Autocar in the U.K. said the concept will become the next Z sports car. The magazine predicted it would use Renault-Nissan’s new CMF-B platform that will underpin the next Nissan Juke.
