Cars and trucks of the future will sport deep reds, sparkling golds, bright silvers, rich blues and deep blue-greens, according to trend spotters at supplier BASF Corp.’s automotive coatings division.
The latest color palette was inspired by the reinvention of Detroit, Paul Czornij, technical manager for the BASF Color Excellence group, said at the company’s “Under the Radar” color trend show in suburban Detroit on Friday.
Color designers from Asia, Europe and the United States met in Detroit to research and discuss future trends and “really liked this sort of emerging Detroit coming up from the ashes like a Phoenix bird,” he said.
They also were inspired by the importance of water in urban environments, especially Detroit, making blue a big part of this year’s annual color trend report.
“We think that saturated colors, very strong, deep saturated colors -- especially on the blue side -- are going to take on more and more prominence,” Czornij said.
