STUTTGART -- Mercedes-Benz is again raising the bar on semiautonomous driving, safety and convenience features with the next-generation E class that will roll out next spring.
Mercedes wants to leapfrog rival BMW, which is playing catch-up with the 7 series that will have some of the semiautonomous features that have been available on the Mercedes S class since the fall of 2013.
Mercedes' new advances, dubbed Intelligent Drive next Level, expand current features and add new ones. (See box, at left.)
At a preview here last week, Mercedes executives said that the intelligent and safety systems bring its vehicles closer to accident-free and autonomous driving.
