A new mobile video app that curates official Web videos posted by automakers on sites such as YouTube and organizes them into individual channels on the app is now live.
The free Test Drive TV app features videos -- selected algorithmically -- from brands including Ford, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Audi and Rolls-Royce.
Test Drive TV, available for the iPhone and iPad, picks up videos from NBC’s “Jay Leno’s Garage” as well. The Apple iOS app launched Sunday; a Google Android version also will be released.
Test Drive TV -- aimed at auto enthusiasts who regularly consume video content on the Web, especially YouTube -- enables users to share videos on social media, through email or their phone’s messaging function. The videos can be streamed wirelessly to Apple TV with AirPlay.
The app is available as U.S. adults spend 50 percent more time viewing video on mobile devices than on computers, according to an eMarketer.com study.
Test Drive TV is a gateway to digital video content across the Web that car lovers can easily access on their mobile devices, said Fahad Khan, CEO of Tube Centrex, the mobile video app platform behind Test Drive TV.
“The intention is to get to the consumer,” Khan said in an interview. “This content is coming from each and every individual channel. All the channels in the app are synced with their respective YouTube channels or video channels or Facebook because we’re integrated with all major video platforms.”
