FRANKFURT -- Mercedes-Benz may launch rivals to the Audi TT sports car and Porsche Panamera, a German auto magazine said.
The two cars would be developed by the brand's AMG performance division, Auto Motor und Sport reported.
Citing company sources, the magazine said Mercedes plans a TT rival based on its MFA2 front-wheel-drive platform that will debut on the next A class in 2017 or 2018. The TT competitor would come later with styling resembling the recently launched Mercedes-AMG GT sports car. A soft-top version also could be sold, the report said.
Mercedes' rival to the coupe-styled Panamera sedan would be based on the E class, the magazine said. The car would have a stand-alone design and not simply be a sporty variant of the E class, the report said. The new model could be introduced after the redesigned E class debuts next year.
Auto Motor und Sport said Mercedes' board has not yet approved the new models. Mercedes declined to comment.
