Nice piece on the importance of aero in automotive design ("What a drag: Designers use new tricks and an old reliable, the wind tunnel," March 23).
Even with all the computer programs to evaluate theoretical airflow, there's a lot we still don't know or even look at as fashion holds the trump card over function and cost with the top marketing suits.
Take rearview mirrors, for example. With the video capabilities we have today, why do we even have side mirrors?
Tiny lipstick cameras on aero wands projecting from the ideal point on a car's surface would give a far wider view and cut down a full point on drag coefficient.
