A quick check of eBay confirms how strong demand is for the SRT Hellcat versions of the Dodge Challenger and Charger.
The online auction site lacks a strong reputation for selling most new cars. Yet since early December, 106 Hellcat Challengers and Chargers have been listed on eBay Motors. Of those cars, 43 were listed as sold, and 33 of those were placed on eBay by franchised Dodge dealers, the rest from private sellers and car flippers.
Of the sold cars, the low transaction price is $64,670 for a black Challenger from Van Dyke Dodge in suburban Detroit, which promises to sell Hellcats for no markup.
The highest price paid was $76,000 for a silver Challenger sold at Stateline Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge in Fort Mill, S.C.
The Hellcat-equipped Charger starts at $65,290, while the Challenger starts at $61,090. Both prices include destination and gas-guzzler fees.
Two other eBay members placed orders for Hellcat-powered cars at dealerships, and then, when the cars were confirmed for delivery, sold their orders -- not the cars themselves -- racking up quick profits of $5,000 and $10,000.
The mid-$70,000s seem to be the top going prices for the cars. Unsold Challenger and Chargers listed with higher starting prices on eBay have attracted angry comments from potential buyers.
