GENEVA -- BMW has decided not to bring either of its new 2-series front-wheel-drive models to the United States.
The 2-series Gran Tourer, which debuted here last week, and the 2-series Active Tourer are too small for the U.S. market, a spokesman said.
BMW says the Gran Tourer, at 179 inches, is not long enough for a minivan with three rows of seats. The Active Tourer wagon is 171 inches long.
The X1, at 175.5 inches, will continue to be BMW's smallest crossover in the U.S. A redesigned X1 using a new fwd platform shared with Mini will go on sale in the United States late this year.
The X1 competes with the Mercedes-Benz GLA and Land Rover's Range Rover Evoque.
