DETROIT -- John Homer Moore Jr. of Hanahan, S.C., died Feb. 7 in Rochester Hills, Mich.
He was 91.
Moore worked for Packard Motor Co. from 1949 to 1957 as the Dallas zone service manager, then for Chrysler Corp. from 1958 to 1979, during which time he was the Detroit zone service manager and then national manager of the Plymouth Troubleshooting Contest.
The contest, which was designed to encourage student mechanics to pursue a career in automotive service, ended when Moore left Chrysler.
He went to work at the American Automobile Association in 1980, and in 1984, Chrysler partnered with AAA and revived the contest, which Moore ran for several years.
