Viper to offer new one-of-one customization options in Feb.

DETROIT -- Dodge will begin offering “one-of-one” customized Vipers next month to customers, complete with a personalized name tag embossed into the instrument panel.The custom Vipers will be available in a new GTC trim level in more than 25 million unique build combinations, Dodge said in a statement Thursday. Consumers will order them through dealers via a special concierge service to allow consumers to directly track their car as it’s being ordered, built and shipped.The brand won’t charge extra for the custom service, which will lock out other consumers from ordering a GTC car in exactly the same combination as one that had previously been ordered, Dodge brand head Tim Kuniskis explained. The GTC model will start at $96,995, including $2,000 for delivery.Because the Viper is hand-built, consumers are able to choose from 8,000 exterior colors, 24,000 hand-painted custom stripes, 10 wheel options, 16 interior trims and 6 aerodynamic packages.The only place where the brand will place limitations is on the aerodynamics packages, so that a consumer couldn’t select options that would degrade its performance and handling, Kuniskis said. Dodge hired a concierge to serve as a liaison between consumers and its Conner Avenue assembly plant in Detroit for the program, which opens for ordering on Feb. 9. The concierge will be available to chat with consumers interested in checking on their vehicle, and will shoot photos and video in the plant of each customized car as it is being built, Kuniskis said.
