AUSTIN, Texas -- Ram's new 2015 ProMaster City small commercial van, a Ford Transit Connect fighter, is aimed at businesses that need small, inexpensive cargo vans.
But the passenger version could end up in taxi services or with consumers who view traditional minivans as too big.
The first ProMaster City vans began shipping this month from a refit center in Baltimore and should begin arriving in dealerships before Jan. 1.
The ProMaster City, made in Turkey, shares most of its components with the Fiat Doblo, which has traversed Europe's roadways since 2000. It is imported into the United States and converted into a two-seat cargo van called the Tradesman or a five-seat passenger van called the Wagon. Both versions come in base or SLT trim.
Unlike its larger commercial sibling, the Ram ProMaster, which is available only in about 900 Ram BusinessLink dealerships that focus on commercial vehicles, the ProMaster City will be available for all Ram dealers to sell.
