CARO, Mich. -- Longtime auto dealer Bob Moore died Dec. 1. He was 81. Moore briefly managed his deceased father's Fowlerville, Mich., dealership before co-buying a Ford store in Caro in 1965. He eventually became the owner of the Ford-Lincoln-Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram dealership in Caro.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Sam Swope, who developed one of the nation's first regional auto malls, died Tuesday, Dec. 9. He was 88. He bought his first dealership in Elizabethtown, Ky., which sold Dodge and Plymouth vehicles, in 1952. His business would grow to 16 dealerships.
In 2009, Automotive News named Swope one of its "visionary dealers," calling him "an early adopter of new brands and new trends." Swope Automotive Group ranks No. 85 on Automotive News' list of the top 125 dealership groups based in the U.S.
