To the Editor:
A full-page ad on Page 60 of the Nov. 10 issue requests our attendance at the Automotive News World Congress. Among the featured speakers, though, are two whose business models undermine the highly successful and competitive franchise system, which is more than 100 years old; that is an insult to our intelligence.
Elon Musk, whether he knows it or not, is trying to open the door for factory store operations, from all over the world, that would destroy the value of all car franchises and competitive brand pricing. I am sure you are aware that dealer associations all over the country are against his business model.
Another speaker, Scott Painter, is nothing but a high-priced bird dog for weak dealers. I hope, for Automotive News' sake, real car dealers who have invested their whole lives in this business do not boo him off the podium.
I will not be attending the January conference.
