We reported last month on Dallas-area Ford dealer Sam Pack's plans to auction off 131of his 473 vintage automobiles in Dallas on Nov. 15. So how did things turn out?
The event certainly attracted a crowd. Car collectors came from 36 states and eight countries to bid, according to Ontario-based RM Auctions, which handled the sale.
And all the lots were sold -- at prices that exceeded expectations in many cases, RM said.
A rare 425-hp 1967 Shelby 427 Cobra that had been valued at more than $1 million went for $1.29 million. A 1963 Shelby 289 Cobra sold for $880,000. A 2006 Ford GT went for $418,000, and a 1931 Chrysler CG Imperial Roadster for $341,000.
Altogether, the 131 cars generated $11.5 million.
Why did Pack, 77, part with the cars? The operator of four Ford dealerships says he wanted to reduce his collection to a more manageable size.
