Nobuhiko Kawamoto and Hiroyuki Yoshino were CEOs in some of the most glorious of Honda's glory days. The two high-spirited acolytes of Soichiro Honda were veterans of the exalted Honda R&D operations, and were both fiercely proud.
So when they speak today, current Honda leadership is expected to listen. And the two old lions have been roaring lately.
Reuters reports that both men have called on CEO Takanobu Ito this year, taking a tough tone and urging him to focus more on quality. Kawamoto, 78, and Yoshino, 75, made separate visits to Ito at Honda's Tokyo headquarters, Reuters reported. Sources said the ex-CEOs urged Ito, 61, to act quickly to solve the quality issues.
