BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Mercedes-Benz will follow the rollout of its GLA compact crossover by bumping up the next-generation GLK -- its first entry-level crossover -- to a larger size and a higher price.
Mercedes used the same strategy with the redesigned C-class sedan after the launch of the CLA compact sedan, said Bart Herring, general manager of product planning for Mercedes-Benz USA.
The current GLK350 with all-wheel drive has a base price of $38,825, including shipping. The redesigned GLK will go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2015. It is expected to be renamed the GLC because it will be close in size to the 2015 C-class sedan.
The entry-level, front-wheel-drive GLA250 will arrive in U.S. showrooms in the first quarter of 2015 and will have a base price of $32,225. The GLA250 4Matic with awd, which went on sale last week, has a base price of $34,225. The high-performance GLA45 AMG, with a starting price of $49,225, also went on sale last week. All prices include shipping.
