With its 707 hp and 650 pounds-feet of torque, the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is the most powerful production car ever to roll out of Detroit. Chrysler recently let buff book enthusiasts sample the $60,000 muscle car, and the scribes have sought to match the roar of the supercharged engine with the screaming sound of their own superlatives. A few examples:
The "6.2-liter V-8's well of torque is deep and wide enough to reach to the horizon -- which the Hellcat-equipped Challenger itself seems likely to also reach as it lunges forward, occupants reflexively giggling and gasping."
-- Car and Driver
"This is a big, comfortable boulevard yacht that just so happens to have a Hellfire missile where the engine should be. Voyaging along in the Barcalounger front thrones ... yet knowing that you can break the tires completely loose in almost any of the eight gears is precisely the point."
-- Motor Trend
"We stomped on the pedal and were greeted with a jungle-clearing roar from the engine, along with the woosh of spinning tires through first, second and third gears as we clicked through the paddles."
"At full throttle, the Hellcat sounds so damned pissed-off that you might think there's another behind you, one on either side, and maybe one above and below, too."
