FRANKFURT -- BMW plans a third model based on its new front-wheel-drive UKL platform -- an X2 crossover, sources say.
The three-door, four-seat X2 is said to resemble the larger X6 crossover. It will be among 10 derivatives the BMW brand is planning off the fwd architecture -- along with the redesigned X1, which will debut next summer, and the existing 2-series Active Tourer.
BMW Group also uses the new platform for its new Mini and plans to develop the X1 and X2 jointly with the second-generation Mini Countryman and Clubman.
The vehicles will share the same drivelines, electrical systems and chassis components in addition to the new platform.
