Cadillac may bring out a sporty derivative of its new Escalade and also is considering V-6 turbodiesel and twin-turbo gasoline V-6-powered versions, said David Schiavone, the model line's brand manager.
The new engines would be in addition to the 6.2-liter V-8 that is the backbone of the Escalade portfolio.
Schiavone said the sporty derivative could be called V-sport.
The new models would set the Escalade apart from its chief competitor, the Lincoln Navigator. For 2015, the Navigator loses its 5.4-liter V-8; the only available engine will be a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6.
Both a V-6 turbodiesel and a twin-turbo gasoline V-6 engine would help sell the Escalade in markets abroad. And they would also make it easier to meet upcoming U.S. emissions targets.
