LOS ANGELES (Bloomberg) -- Tesla Motors Inc. said it's assisting Los Angeles police and fire officials investigating the theft of a Model S sedan by a man who Friday led police on a high- speed chase before crashing the car in West Hollywood.
The carmaker "continues to cooperate" with authorities reviewing the matter, said Simon Sproule, a company spokesman, without elaborating.
The vehicle split into two after hitting a light pole, according to KTLA-TV.
The car was stolen from a "dealership in the 5800 block of Centinela Ave." in western Los Angeles early Friday, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing LAPD Officer Christopher No.
An RMG News video shows firefighters attempting to pull the driver out of the EV and a piece of the vehicle embedded into a building.
Tesla has a service center at 5840 West Centinela. The man who stole the vehicle was injured when the car crashed into other vehicles; he remains in critical condition, according to the LAPD.
Following the collision, the car's battery pack ignited and triggered a fire that burned the car.
