GM offers school employee discounts on Chevys, GMCs, Buicks

General Motors said today it will offer discounts on most 2014 and 2015 Chevrolet, GMC and Buick vehicles to teachers and other employees of public or private schools, from preschool through college.

The GM Educator Discount program runs today through Jan. 2. It excludes the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 and Spark EV. School employees may buy or lease as many as two discounted vehicles under the program. School employees’ spouses and children may participate in the program, but the children must be under age 21 or full-time students under age 25. Dealerships may opt out of participating in the program.

Discounts under the program are similar to those offered to GM suppliers, said Lisa Gill, account supervisor with MSLGROUP, a public relations company. Supplier pricing is the dealer invoice price plus shipping and a $150 program fee.

The program’s Web site lists discounts from sticker prices such as $1,159.95 off the 2014 Chevrolet Impala 1LT, $2,173.24 off the 2014 Buick Enclave and $2,466.14 off the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500.

Program discounts may be combined with other offers, such as bonus cash, according to the Web site.

“GM values the work our educators and support staff are doing across the country to create a strong, responsible work force for the future,” Linda Stouffer, GM’s manager of vehicle purchase programs, said in a statement.

GM is an exhibitor at the National Education Association’s two-day 2014 NEA Expo in Denver, which began today.

The company has been increasing its promotions to certain buyer groups. In October, GM increased discounts to employees, retirees and their immediate families, and expanded the discounts to include aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. It also enhanced its discount for active-duty military members.
