Ram brand head Reid Bigland today said Chrysler Group will bring the Fiat Doblo to the United States late next year and call it the ProMaster City.
He first told Automotive News about the plans on June 30.
The small commercial van will compete with the Ford Transit Connect and the Nissan NV200, which will also sell as the Chevrolet City Express.
Bigland told Automotive News this summer that the ProMaster City would join the Ram commercial van lineup at the end of 2014. Ram introduced a rebadged version of the larger Fiat Ducato, which it calls the ProMaster, to North America this fall. The larger vans are built in Saltillo, Mexico.
The Doblo comes in both panel and seven-passenger versions overseas, where it has sold more than 1.3 million units.
Ram is likely to give the Doblo the same type of Americanization treatment that it gave the Ducato, namely an available automatic transmission and wider engine choices, as well as slight design differences to appeal to North American customers.
