Oh, the perils of clip art.
On Toyota Motor Sales USA's Web site, the thumb and forefinger of a giant hand hold an engine behind the back bumper of a 2014 Corolla. The idea is to show how shoppers can configure their own cars.
The problem? The engine is a Mercedes-Benz V-6 diesel, not the 1.8-liter inline-4 gasoline engine that powers the Corolla. Jalopnik.com, an enthusiast Web site, busted Toyota for the photo flub.
"Our bad," a Toyota spokesman wrote in an e-mail. "A supplier developing site content used the image of the Benz V-6 engine as a placeholder during the production process. The image made it through the revision process without being replaced. The image has been removed."
