Park Place Lexus Plano went on a hiring spree this year, creating and filling 100 positions. The dealership added people in nearly every department, bringing its total staff to 276 employees.
Here's how the dealership brought all of those new hires up to speed.
Why the store pumped up the staffing was simple: The suburban Dallas dealership was moving into a larger building.
The average customer never knew that Park Place Lexus Plano's facilities were outdated. The 22-year-old building was upgraded 15 times over the years to keep it looking fresh.
But behind the scenes, things were too cramped as the dealership tried to service 4,500 vehicles a month with only 72 service bays, General Manager Chris Brunner said.
So this fall the suburban Dallas dealer moved into a gleaming new 170,000 square-foot building that nearly doubled its service capacity to 124 service bays and includes a three-story parts department and five customer lounges.
At the old store, the detail shop and carwash were located down a side street away from the dealership, but now everything is incorporated into the main building.
The dealership sold or leased 3,392 new vehicles in 2012. It expects the new facility to help boost sales.
