DETROIT -- Ray Windecker, a former Studebaker manager who carved out a career as a research analyst at Ford, died Sept. 4. He was 86.
For nearly a quarter century, Windecker worked in a position created for him by Ford public relations chief Walter Murphy: sales analyst on the public affairs staff.
After college, Windecker joined Studebaker as a field representative. He was hired by Lincoln-Mercury in 1963 after Studebaker ended U.S. auto production. A short time later he was chosen for the manager of research and analysis role. He retired from Ford in 1989.
