INGOLSTADT, Germany -- The Sport Quattro Concept plug-in hybrid Audi will unveil next month at the Frankfurt auto show could become a low-volume series model, a company source hinted.
The production version, which has 2+2 seating, would be priced above Audi's top-of-the-line $120,000 R8 sports car.
While there is no official information beyond design sketches, the source said the concept is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines the company's twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 with a powerful electric motor.
The powertrain, which is teamed with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, will produce well over 600 hp. The battery pack is located below the trunk.
The Sport Quattro Concept is based on Audi's MLB platform and is closely related to the A7 hatchback luxury sedan.
