TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Volkswagen will decide by year end whether to build a new three-row crossover in Chattanooga or Puebla, Mexico.
The crossover would put VW into a new product segment. Though only slightly larger than the current Touareg SUV, the German automaker's new MQB architecture would allow it to seat seven.
"My team is working hard to get this as a second vehicle," said Frank Fischer, CEO of Volkswagen Group of America Chattanooga Operations at an industry conference here.
VW's Chattanooga plant builds only the Passat.
