Former General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz was one of five people inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame last week in Plymouth, Mich. But the evening's lead comedic role was played by the person doing Lutz's induction, GM North America President Mark Reuss.
To open his remarks, Reuss used a Top 10 list to set the stage. The subject: "Top 10 Things Bob Never Said."
The list speaks for itself. Kind of like Maximum Bob.
No. 10: "Sports cars just aren't practical...what we need is a good solid minivan."
No. 9: "An auto company is only as good as its H.R. function."
No. 8: "The design is OK, but I think there might be a little too much chrome."
No. 7: "You know, I think that Ed Whitacre's really taking a liking to me."
No. 6: "I think the obvious answer to all our problems is diesels."
No. 5: "Icons and Idiots...I'm sure Mark Reuss falls into one category or the other."
No. 4: "I wonder if the FAA would mind if I buzzed Milford real low, just this once."
No. 3: "You are absolutely right, and I totally agree with you, Mr. Iacocca, sir."
No. 2: "Global warming is a total crock of -- " oh, wait, he did say that.
And the No. 1 thing Bob Lutz never said: "No comment."
