To the Editor:
There was a fascinating juxtaposition of headlines on Page 3 of the July 1 issue: "Old-time price war? Not so much" above "Toyota: Whatever it takes to keep Camry crown."
I do agree that the industry is collectively more rational in pricing than ever before, and that the massive incentive wars of the past are not likely to return, but it seems we can still expect the occasional flare-up.
Discipline will be harder to maintain once the slow but steady growth in SAAR -- the seasonally adjusted annualized rate of sales -- we have been experiencing eventually plateaus.
