Mercedes-Benz says introducing AMG's first four-cylinder engine in November on the 2014 CLA45 AMG will help the performance sub-brand increase its share of the company's U.S. sales.
Robert Moran, AMG's U.S. manager, says the AMG version of Mercedes' new entry-level model will start at under $50,000, roughly $12,000 lower than last year's AMG starting point. AMG models accounted for 6,658 of Mercedes' 274,084 U.S. sales in 2012.
The CLA45 AMG will have a 2.0-liter bi-turbo four-cylinder engine that delivers 355 hp and 332 pounds-feet of torque. Moran says it offers the highest turbocharger pressure and horsepower per liter of displacement of any production engine.
