AutoNation Inc.'s lead-referral subsidiary has unveiled an online service that lets consumers search dealership Web sites for new and used vehicles based on monthly payments. When a consumer chooses the desired payment a sales lead is sent to the dealership.
AutoNation unit launches Shop-By-Payment service
The service, Shop-By-Payment, is offered by AutoUSA Internet Sales Solutions and is available to dealers who use AutoUSA's Payment Pro, a payment-based prequalification tool for dealership Web sites.
"Instead of searching for vehicles based on make, model or price, customers can now view and choose from all the vehicles they know they can afford based on the monthly payment," AutoUSA President Phil DuPree said in a statement.
Here's how the service works: When consumers enter a dealership Web site with Shop-By-Payment, they are given the choice to search inventory based on their desired monthly payment, according to the company.
When the shoppers click on a price, they are asked to give their names, addresses, phone numbers and some other information. Once they click the "Get Payments" button, they authorize the company to obtain personal credit and other information for credit prequalification.
Shop-By-Payment displays monthly payment quotes based on the consumers' credit, the dealership's finance programs and available inventory.
After vehicles matching the consumers' payment range are displayed, Shop-By-Payment lets consumers switch search criteria from monthly payments to down payments or the "bottom line" price they want to pay.
Once customers click on a button with the desired monthly payment, the information is sent to the dealership as a sales lead.
Consumer credit scores will not be affected by the service, the company says.
AutoUSA Internet Sales Solutions of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is the former AutoVantage, a car-care and ownership program formed in 1988. AutoNation bought AutoVantage in 2000 and changed its name to AutoUSA in 2003.
