Alfonso Albaisa, the Cuban-American designer who has led Nissan's worldwide passenger car design strategy for a year, has been named global design chief for Infiniti.
The position is being created as part of an effort to distance Infiniti from the Nissan brand.
Albaisa, 48, previously ran Nissan's U.S. design studio in San Diego and Nissan's European studios before that.
Albaisa already has played a role at Infiniti. He steered the look of the brand's Emerg-E plug-in electric concept from 2012 and designed a premium concept that the company has not yet shown to the public.
