DETROIT -- Since Jerry Feldman and Tim Mullahey bought Central Ford of Los Angeles in 2010, the once-moribund store's monthly new-vehicle sales have soared from 10 to about 60 -- and they're still rising. Feldman's reason for the improvement: the Super Segment.
Super Segment is Ford Motor Co.'s term for five Ford brand vehicles: the Fiesta subcompact, Focus compact, Escape compact crossover, C-Max Hybrid crossover and Fusion mid-sized sedan.
The vehicles are Ford's import fighters. They have the brand's kinetic design and best fuel economy. All except the C-Max Hybrid are offered with Ford's EcoBoost engines. And all were developed initially in Europe under CEO Alan Mulally's One Ford product plan.
