So after last month's rip-roarin' 15.1 million SAAR, are new-vehicle sales still smokin' hot?
"March is cooking -- it's absolutely on fire," said Steve Landers Sr., a principal of RLJ-McLarty-Landers Automotive of Little Rock, Ark. Sales through March 14 were strong across all brands at the dealership group's 25 stores, says Landers.
That's just an anecdote, of course. The real votes come from shoppers' dollars, and we won't take the full measure of March sales madness, or lack thereof, until April 3. And it's a bit early in the month for industry analysts to go out on a limb, although some already are weighing in.
Wells Fargo Securities analyst Richard Kwas expects March's selling pace to finish in "the mid-14-million range." That would be below February's selling rate but still above January's 14.2 million, both of which beat forecasters' expectations.
