Porsche will call its new compact SUV the Macan, the Indonesian word for "tiger."
The Macan goes on sale in the United States early next year, sharing an architecture with the Audi Q5. Internally, the SUV had been called the Cajun -- short for Cayenne Jr. because it will be smaller than Porsche's Cayenne.
Porsche will build the Macan in Leipzig, Germany.
Bernhard Maier, head of sales and marketing for Porsche AG, said: "The name of a new Porsche has to fit with the brand, sound good in very many languages and dialects and evoke positive associations."
