Laura Clark Geist, a former Automotive News reporter and longtime contributor to the publication, died Friday at age 50 after a long battle with cancer.
Geist, a graduate of the University of Michigan and Northwestern University, joined Automotive News in 1986 as a staff reporter. Her beats included marketing and Ford Motor Co. She wrote hundreds of articles for the publication as a free-lance writer from the mid-1990s through 2010.
She was the co-author of Praying Through Cancer: Set Your Heart Free From Fear, published in 2006. The book's Web site describes it as a "90-day devotional guide written specifically for cancer patients by cancer patients with the insight, wisdom and clarity found only through personal trial."
Survivors include her husband of 23 years, Gordon, and children Geoffrey and Gretchen.
Visitation will be at the A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home in Royal Oak, Mich, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, at Highland Park Baptist Church, in Southfield, Mich.
