Mercedes-Benz USA has shifted Bernhard Glaser, the U.S. company's top product planner for nearly a decade, to its top marketing job.
Glaser, 47, fills the post previously held by Steve Cannon, who took over as CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA in January.
Glaser, a native of Germany, had been general manager of product management since 2003. As vice president of marketing, he will be responsible for Mercedes-Benz, Smart and Maybach marketing in the United States.
Glaser has held various product management positions since joining Mercedes-Benz in Germany in 1992.
He came to the United States in 1998 as department manager for coupes and convertibles, overseeing the volume planning, price positioning and strategy for the SL, SLK, CL and CLK cars.
He returned to Germany three years later as executive assistant to the board member responsible for worldwide sales and marketing of the Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and Smart brands. He was later reassigned to the United States.
Glaser will be charged with developing marketing strategies for the small A- and B-class vehicles that Mercedes will begin selling in the United States next year. Mercedes will be aiming the front-wheel-drive models at young buyers.
Said Cannon: "Bernie brings to this job an extensive amount of experience with the product, the brand, the culture, the dealers and our customers at a time when we are planning to take every aspect of our business to new levels in this market."
