JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - French battery maker Saft SA says it has begun producing lithium ion batteries for autos in its new plant in Jacksonville, Fla.
The 235,000-square-foot plant, which employs 300 people, will generate annual sales of $300 million at full production capacity.
The $200 million plant qualified for a $95.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. Saft, which is based in Paris, employs 4,000 workers in 19 countries.
