DETROIT -- Georg Fischer Automotive AG and Grede Holdings signed a partnership agreement in which Grede would manufacture on behalf of Georg Fischer in the United States and Georg Fischer on behalf of Grede in Europe and Asia.
Georg Fischer also has granted Grede a license to use the Swiss company's SiboDur alloy in the United States. SiboDur is an iron alloy that allows for a much lighter construction of chassis parts and competes successfully with aluminum in terms of weight and performance, but at a much lower cost.
Georg Fischer Automotive, of Schaffhausen, Switzerland, ranks No. 81 on the Automotive News list of the top 100 global suppliers with worldwide parts sales to automakers of $1.62 billion in its 2010 fiscal year.
Grede Holdings, of suburban Detroit, ranks No. 91 on the Automotive News list of the top 100 suppliers to North America with parts sales to automakers in North America of $375 million in 2010.
