Peter Schreyer wanted me to see what he saw.
Hands on my shoulders, Kia's soft-spoken, 58-year-old global design chief turned me in such a way that I could only see the curved side window of a gray Mercedes E-350 coupe, outlined in chrome trim, about 50 yards away.
"If you see only that on the street from a distance, what would you guess it would be?" he asked.
"Audi," I answered, a little worried that I had given the wrong answer to one of the industry's leading designers. To my relief, Schreyer agreed.
I was tagging along with Schreyer on a tour of the Los Angeles Auto Show. During our walk, he shared thoughts on show cars, design trends and the industry in general, despite some initial reservations about offering opinions to a note-scribbling reporter.
