SAGINAW, Mich. -- Nexteer Automotive plans to build a $30 million factory near Pune, India, to serve that rapidly growing market.
Initially the 75,000-square-foot plant will employ 150 workers and produce halfshafts, pumps and steering gears when it opens in the first quarter of 2012. The factory later will launch production of electric power steering systems as that market adopts the new technology over the next five years.
Nexteer also plans to open a customer service center in Bangalore, and will expand its other facilities in Bangalore and Gurgaon.
Nexteer, of Saginaw, ranks No. 70 on the Automotive News list of the top 100 global suppliers with estimated worldwide parts sales to automakers of $2 billion in 2010.
