LAS VEGAS -- Beach-bum surfers have no reason to be grimy anymore, at least if Toyota has anything to say about it. With help from Oakley, the company installed a shower in its new surf truck.
The SEMA show here saw the unveiling on Tuesday of the Oakley Surf Tacoma with all-star surfer Tom Whitaker. The heavily customized truck has everything a surfer needs to find and catch the biggest waves, including GPS, space for boards, a barbecue grill, a cooler and a shower from the roof rack.
The pickup was customized by Smithbuilt to be a Surfing Big Wave Assault Machine. Based on the 4x4 Toyota Tacoma, Smithbuilt added a supercharger, bringing horsepower to 304. A Flowmaster exhaust was installed along with an Icon Stage 3 lift kit, Billet top A arms, new leaf springs, a front coil-over system and big wheels and tires from Walker Evans and BF Goodrich.
