Ford Motor Co. contributed $200 million to its worldwide pension plans in the quarter ended Sep. 30, bringing its total contribution so far this year to $1 billion, according to a filing this week with the SEC.
The automaker is expected to contribute an additional $600 million to the pension plans by Dec. 31, based on expectations disclosed in an Aug. 5 filing with the SEC.
The automaker said at the time it expected to contribute $1.6 billion to its worldwide pension plans this year.
In 2010, Ford contributed $1.4 billion to its pension plans worldwide, according to a Feb. 28 SEC filing.
As of Dec. 31, its U.S. pension plans had a combined $39.9 billion in assets and $46.6 billion in liabilities, while its non-U.S. plans had a combined $18.6 billion in assets and $23.3 billion in liabilities.
Ford has produced net profits of $6.6 billion on revenue of $101.7 billion through the first nine months of this year.
