To the Editor:
Regarding "Lincoln's $1 million ultimatum" (June 13): Just wondering whether Ford Credit will step up and loan some money. I know there's a cigar box somewhere for Lincoln dealers.
Only a fool would pony up a million dollars for a Lincoln showroom. How would you ever get your money back? I don't know a Lincoln dealer on the planet who needs a tax write-off, do you?
One thing for sure: If a dealer decides to do this, it will not interrupt his business. A sales-and-profit forecast will not support this expense. Lincoln share was 0.7 percent through May; no Mercury customers are upgrading.
Yeah, sure, spend a million. Why not?
The company should be upgrading Ford showrooms if it wants something to do; $70,000 Super Duty pickups deserve a nice showroom, don't you think?
The company will run out of dealers before it runs out of cars.
